Bengaluru FC Reserves begin RF Development League campaign with win over RFYC!

Goals in each half from Bekey Oram (30′) and Rahul Raju (90′) were enough to see the Bengaluru FC Reserves pick up a 2-0 win over Reliance Foundation Young Champs in their opening encounter of the Reliance Foundation Development League in Benaulim on Friday, April 15.

Earlier, Naushad Moosa named Sivasakthi Narayanan, Lalthangliana and Thoi Singh in attack, while Amay Morajkar made his return from injury in midfield alongside Damaitphang Lyngdoh and Oram. At the back, Sharon Padattil manned the Blue Colts’ goal, with Jagdeep Singh, Robin Yadav, Rakesh Likmabam and Namgyal Bhutia tasked in defence.

Bengaluru FC began strongly and found the opener just 30 minutes in when Bekey’s effort from distance took a deflection off Chingambam Shivaldo Singh and looped over Khoirom Jackson Singh in the Young Champs’ goal.

Moosa’s side continued to dictate play, creating patterns across the field but the finish was found wanting as they reached the break holding a slender lead. Bengaluru returned for more in the second period, but the scorching heat had energy levels tested for both sets of players.

Having introduced Rahul Raju for the final few minutes of the game in place of Lalthangliana, the striker added his name to the scoresheet after a set-piece routine from a corner.

Omega Vanlalhruaitluanga’s take found Bekey, who played it back to the winger with a quick touch. Having beaten his man, Omega’s clipped ball at the back post found Rahul, who nodded home from close range to make it 2-0 in what would be the final chance of the game.

The Blue Colts take on FC Goa in their next encounter of the Reliance Foundation Development League at the Nagoa Football Ground on April 19.
