Bhutan FF usher 2022 with upgraded AFC Grassroots Charter Silver membership!

The Bhutan Football Federation (BFF) welcomed the new year on a high note after their AFC Grassroots Charter membership was upgraded to Silver.

In awarding them, the AFC Grassroots Panel cited the BFF’s commitment and fulfilment of the AFC’s Grassroots Charter goals. The Federation’s grassroots philosophy was found to be in accordance with the Charter and prioritised, supported and implemented on all levels.

The Panel also acknowledged the number of BFF programmes for diverse target groups, a focus on education, excellent cooperation with local government structures, especially schools, and a consistent, holistic and thorough grassroots plan.

The BFF received their Bronze membership on May 20, 2018. Assessment for the Silver was conducted online due to the COVID-19 restrictions with a future assessment visit agreed upon when the situation allows.

BFF General Secretary Ugyen Wangchhuk said: “The AFC’s basic requirements and performance criteria provided us with a clear pathway to promote and develop grassroots football. Silver membership status is truly a remarkable achievement and will only further encourage us to develop the game.”

Echoing his sentiments, BFF Technical Director Vincent Subramaniam added: “The seeds were laid in 2011 and the roots have since spread over all 20 districts. All national teams and Bhutan Premier League players have at one point in time attended a grassroots session, and we will continue in our efforts to cultivate the next decade of players through the grassroots.”

The AFC Grassroots Charter is a development tool that aims to raise the quality of Asian grassroots programmes. It identifies 20 performance categories including competitions, fairplay, partnerships and personal development.
