Jamshedpur FC will be taking on ATK Mohun Bagan in their second game of the Super Cup 2023 Group stage. As the two fierce sides gear up to go into battle, let’s revisit one of their previous encounters.
Back in the 2021-22 season, Jamshedpur FC and ATK Mohun Bagan had one of the most intense encounters of the season in their first face-off.
Former Mariners’ boss, Antonio Lopes Habas, went with his patented 3-4-3 system while former Jamshedpur FC boss, Owen Coyle, fielded a 4-4-2 formation.
The match picked up pace from the get-go as the referee’s book saw some early cards in the game. Both sides kept going at each other with aggression but were unable to break the deadlock for the initial half hour of the game.
Right after the 30 minute mark, Jamshedpur FC found the opener that they put in the work for. A build-up from the middle of the pitch by Jitendra Singh was passed to Seiminlen Doungel on the right flank. Len drove the ball forward towards the edge of the box and finished the play with a wonderful strike into the side netting.
The Men of Steel closed the first half with a goal’s lead while the Kolkata-based side had work to put in to make their way back in the game.
As the game drew closer to its dying minutes, Jamshedpur FC’s former midfielder, Alex Lima, came off the bench to make an instant impact. Amrinder Singh, ATK Mohun Bagan’s custodian could not save a left-footed shot that was fired from the edge of the penalty area by the Brazilian which gave the Men of Steel a well-deserved lead.
Afterwards, a cross from the left wing into the box was parried away by TP Rehenesh, but the save took a rebound off Ashutosh Mehta, and Pritam Kotal surged forward to slot in a late consolation goal for the Mariners. The Men of Steel walked away victorious that night as a heated 90′ came to an end.
Jamshedpur FC will look to repeat this display as they get ready to play against ATK Mohun Bagan live on Sony Sports 2 and Fancode at 8:30pm on April 14.
