Borussia Dortmund will be represented at the 32-team FIFA Club World Cup, which will take place for the first time in summer 2025. The tournament will be held in the USA from June 15 to July 13, 2025.
It was confirmed on Wednesday evening that Borussia Dortmund have qualified for the FIFA Club World Cup. The tournament will be played in a new format involving 32 teams for the first time in summer 2025. The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) will send 12 representatives. These will be the winners of the UEFA Champions League from 2021 to 2024 as well as the best clubs in the club ranking list, which reflects performances and successes in the 2020/21 to 2023/24 UEFA Champions League campaigns. Each national association may send a maximum of two participants, unless their number of Champions League winners in this timeframe is higher.
The opening game will take place on June 15, 2025. There will be eight groups with four teams in each. There will be two clubs from Europe in four of the eight groups. The other 20 participants will come from South America (six), Africa, Asia, North and Central America (four each) and Oceania (one). The last place will go to a club from the host country, the USA. The top two teams in the group will reach the round of 16; from then on it will progress in a knockout format. The final is scheduled for July 13, 2025.
The following clubs have already qualified alongside Borussia Dortmund: Chelsea FC, Real Madrid, Manchester City, FC Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Inter Milan, FC Porto, Benfica, Palmeiras, Flamengo, Fluminense, Monterrey, Seattle Sounders, Club Leon, Al-Ahly, Wydad Casablanca, Al-Hilal, Urawa Red Diamonds, and Auckland City FC.
