Borussia Dortmund returns to the USA in the summer!

Borussia Dortmund will once again travel to the USA in the summer of 2023. The first match arranged is a clash with English record-holding champions Manchester United on July 30 in Las Vegas.

It was in July 1980 that the Australian rock band AC/DC wrote a piece of music history with their album “Back in Black.” In the summer of 2023, Borussia Dortmund will write a furtherpiece into its own black and yellow history when the eight-time German champions return to the USA with their first-team squad under the motto “Back in Black & Yellow” after a four-year break due to the pandemic.

Sponsored by the DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga and main sponsor EVONIK, BVB will visit several cities in the West and Midwest of the country from the end of July. The first of a seriesof matches to be announced today is a clash with English record-holding champions Manchester United, featuring the in-form Marcus Rashford, ex-Dortmund player Jadon Sancho and World Cup winner Lisandro Martinez. The match will be played on 30th July at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas and kick-off is at 6pm local time.

BVB Managing Director Carsten Cramer said: “I think back with great pleasure to the summer of 2016 when we played Manchester United in front of a large crowd in Shanghai at the time. Now we look forward to returning to North America, where the market is becoming increasingly important in the run-up to the 2026 World Cup and the enthusiasm for football is growing. Not only does the Allegiant Stadium look great from the outside, but the enthusiastic fans in the USA, who we have missed since our last visit, will ensure that the game in Las Vegas will hold a special place in BVB’s history.”

Sporting Director Sebastian Kehl added: “If you take a look at which major clubs are spending part of their pre-season in the USA this summer, also playing high-profile friendlies as part of it, then it is only logical that we as Borussia Dortmund do not miss out on this either. In the coming weeks, our focus in planning the trip will be on creating the perfect mix between training and matches, as well as interaction with the local people.

It will be BVB’s fourth trip across the Atlantic altogether, with the first visit coming back in 1954, along with the celebrated appearances in 2018 and 2019. The club from the Ruhr region is rejoicing in steadily growing popularity among football fans in North America, not least because US-internationals Christian Pulisic (2015-2019) and Giovanni Reyna (2019-present)have also established themselves in European professional football with BVB.

Pre-sale will start on Thursday, April 6 at 18:00 CEST. More information to follow.
