Brazilian health officials force abandonment of Brazil vs Argentina game!

FIFA & CONMEBOL has confirmed that following a decision by the match officials, the 2022 FIFA World Cup – Qatar qualifying match between Brazil and Argentina in Sao Paulo was first suspended and then postponed.

This happened after Brazilian health officials objected to the participation of four Argentina players, three of them in the starting line-up, who they believe broke Brazilian quarantine rules and regulations.

The four players in question are Giovani lo Celso and Cristian Romero of Tottenham Hotspur, and
Emiliano Buendia and Emiliano Martinez of Aston Villa.

After on pitch discussions amongst the two teams, federations and healthauthorities; Argentina led by captain Lionel Messi walked off the pitch, never to return on Sunday with Brazil holding a training session.

Later CONMEBOL in a statement said, “By decision of the match referee, the match organized by FIFA between Brazil and Argentina for the World Cup Qualifiers is suspended.”

“The referee and the match commissioner will submit a report to the Fifa Disciplinary Committee, which will determine the steps to be followed. These procedures strictly adhere to current regulations.”
