Bundesliga: Darmstadt 98’s special jersey tribute to deceased fan ‘Johnny’!

German Bundesliga side Darmstadt 98 despite their current problems in the league they never ever forget their roots and where they have come up from.

SV Darmstadt 98 with their kit maker JAKO and its main sponsor Software AG recall the late Jonathan “Johnny” Heimes. Together, they have designed a special jersey, which the JAKO sponsored team will wear against Mainz 05 on Saturday, March 11 in the Bundesliga match. The play will be fighting on the not-for-profit initiative of Johnny to draw attention.

A graphic is placed in the chest area of the white special jersey: “You have to fight – especially right now”, stands in white on a blue background. The motto was known in Germany in 2014, because the cancer-prone Johnny handed the bracelet to the team with his motto. Also thanks to this support, Darmstadt 98 succeeded in a proverbial football miracle, which continued in 2015 with the rise to the 1. Bundesliga.

On the collar back of the jersey are the date of birth (19.02.1990) and the day of death (08.03.2016) of Johnny. In the inside of the collar the bank connection to the donation account of the initiative DUMUSSTKÄMPFEN! has been placed.

Christoph Rohmer from JAKO said, “The decisive factor in the design was that we create maximum attention for the foundation. That is why we placed Johnny’s bracelet prominently in the chest area and renounced the right to sponsorship. The JAKO label is not blue as usual, but white and is thus visibly into the background. Software AG has also given up rights as a sponsor and created space for the bracelet graphic.”

1898 special jerseys will be available in the fanshop of SV Darmstadt 98. All the proceeds of the sold jerseys will be donated to the DUMUSSTKÄMPFEN! foundation.

Jonathan “Johnny” Heimes was known as a talented tennis player and a fan of SV Darmstadt 98. Since he was 14 years old, he has been fighting cancer. Together with six friends, he founded the DUMUSSTKÄMPFEN! Initiative in February 2015 to help other children and adolescents fight cancer.
