Burnley FC extend contract of youngster Tom Tweedy!

Burnley FC U-21s midfielder Tom Tweedy has signed a new two-year contract, tying him to the Club until the summer of 2026.

The 19-year-old’s deal was due to expire at the end of June, but his performances in Andy Farrell’s team this season have earned him new terms.

Tweedy joined Burnley in January 2023, moving from his native Wales where he had made 25 senior appearances for Penybont in the Cymru Premier League.

He has frequently played as an attacking midfielder for the U21s this term, providing seven goals and 11 assists in 32 appearances across all competitions.

Having put pen to paper at Burnley Training Centre, Tweedy said: “My time here so far has been excellent.”

“I came last year and kind of used the first six months to settle in. This season I feel like I’ve developed massively and really kicked on.”

“I’m living on my own, too, so stuff like washing and cooking that my parents used to do for me I’ve got to do myself now. I quite enjoy cooking!”

“If I had to pick a standout moment, it would be scoring a last-minute winner against Swansea City, who I was with as a kid, in April – that was the best feeling I’ve had in my life.”

“My Grandad used to help me with football when I was younger and he’s sadly not here anymore. It’s a sense of relief that my hard work has paid off and I’m doing it for him, as well as myself.”

Academy Manager David Longwell added, “Tom has proven his value to the group, contributing on and off the pitch.”

“Through very good application and work ethic he has made improvements and can now play in a number of positions, which we think is very important, and I’m confident he’ll continue to develop next season.”
