CAF held a four-day CAF Women’s Football Capacity building workshop in Egypt, Cairo aimed at strengthening Member Association’s operational deliverables in improving the standard of Women’s Football in Africa.
The workshop that started on 26 February, was attended by the CAF Member Associations administrators.
In the last three years, Women’s Football in Africa has made some leaps including the heroic performance of the African teams at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
The introduction of the CAF Women’s Champions League in 2021 – with the inaugural event played in Cairo, Egypt – was a game charger in continental women’s football.
Speaking at the event, CAF General Secretary, Veron Mosengo-Omba, underscored the need for Women’s Football to strengthen administration support.
“The success of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire has brought the spotlight to African and we now have to focus on improving not only in men’s football but more importantly in Women’s Football. On the field, a lot of progress has been made, we must carry the momentum. Women’s Football is one of the priority areas for CAF President Dr Motsepe.”
The four-day seminar saw football administrators from across the continent engaged in the latest trends, topics, and direction that world football is taking. The participants were able to discuss various subjects such as marketing, communication, strategy, leadership, and women’s football development, among others.
CAF Head of Women’s Football Development Division, Meskerem Goshime, said that the symposium was a continuation of what was started in 2019 and has provided CAF with an opportunity to assess the growth since then and map a way forward. She added that the workshop brought together a diverse group of administrators that allowed for the exchange of ideas and learning from each other in further reshaping and developing the women’s game across Africa.
“We want to give women the opportunity to progress in the world of football by giving them the means to become managers, club presidents and more. We want to make sure that young African girls dream big. In 2019, we set up the first edition of this seminar. Since then, there has been significant progress in women’s football in Africa. This workshop gave us the opportunity to reflect on these positive changes and discuss how to maintain this momentum and achieve greater competitiveness on a global level, which is the goal of CAF,” Goshime said.
The workshop was delivered in partnership with FIFA by women’s football experts.
