Captain Dimitri Payet to leave Olympique Marseille!

After nine seasons in Olympien colours, Olympique de Marseille and its emblematic captain Dimitri Payet are ending their joint adventure.

326 games, 78 goals and 95 assists. A pure talent endowed with a rare elegance, OM’s number 10 marked the club with his technical class, his goals and his assists which inspired a whole generation of Olympiens.

A loyalty which makes him the seventh most capped player in the history of the club and which led him to become, here in Marseille, the first and only player to cross the bar of 100 goals and 100 assists in Ligue 1. A performance reflecting the imprint he will leave forever within our club and our championship, of which he is the best assist maker in history.

Capable of reversing the course of a match with a single gesture, his technical prowess and his sense of the game will have electrified many evenings at the Orange Vélodrome and on all French and European grounds. It is an immense pride for Olympique de Marseille to have been able to count on such a talented player and to have made him our captain.

Olympique de Marseille wishes to express its thanks and its deep gratitude, for all these years spent giving the best, to an exceptional captain and player who has marked our recent history, and who is and will remain a legend of the club.

Pablo Longoria, President of Olympique de Marseille: “I would like to thank Dimitri for everything he has brought to Olympique de Marseille over all these years. Beyond an exceptional talent, I also want to salute his love for the club, for the supporters and for the city. He is a symbol of this strong connection between OM and Marseille. I wish him the best for his next stage of life. Dimitri will always be at home here.”
