CECAFA Zonal Women’s Champions League Qualifiers set!

The CECAFA zonal Women’s Champions League qualifiers have finally been set to run August 28 to September 9 in Nairobi, Kenya.

Auka Gacheo, the Executive Director of the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) told CAF this morning that a mini draw has been conducted and the eight teams are now divided in two groups.

Gacheo explained that after Rwanda’s Scandinavian FC withdrew after the first draw was conducted last month, they were forced to do a mini draw to place the two remaining teams in either Group A or B.

“We have now finalized the mini draw and action will start on August 28th with two games to be played at the Nyayo Stadium,” added Gecheo.

Simba Queens from Tanzania, Lady Doves (Uganda), PVP FC (Burundi) and FAD FC (Djibouti) are in Group A, while Kenya’s Vihiga Queens FC, Commercial Bank of Ethiopia, Yei Joint Stars (South Sudan) and New Generations (Zanzibar) are placed in Group B.

Winny Ayikoru, the Yei Joint Stars captain told CAF that they are very focused to perform well in this tournament. “Although we don’t have a lot of experience playing at this stage, we have prepared well and should be able to put up good performances,” added Ayikoru.

The winner from the CECAFA qualifiers will join the other seven to battle in the 2021 TotalEnergies Women’s Champions League to be held in Egypt.
