Chandigarh Youth League – Day 7: Tournament reaches critical stage!

Chandigarh Youth League continued with Day 7 of matches today at Sector 17 Football Stadium. The Chandigarh Youth League is being organised from May 27 to June 11 by Minerva Punjab FC in association with Chandigarh Football Association and Mission XI Million at the Sector 17 Football Stadium.

Day seven of matches kicked off and teams of the 16-18 years, 13-15 years and 9-12 years Age Groups played their next round of matches in the morning and evening at the Sector 17 football stadium amidst festive atmosphere. Matches were played in 7-a-side format and each team was mentored by a Minerva Punjab FC coach.

The competition was stronger than ever as all teams tried to get as many points as possible to qualify for the semifinals. There were upsets and unexpected results in each group making the race to the semi finals a close and exciting one.

In the 13-15 age group, one of the favourites of this age group, Kabir FC who had defeated Warrior FC 8-0 in their last match were upset by Arsenal FC who took away all 3 points after a thrilling 2-1 victory. Arman of Arsenal FC was awarded Man of the match.
In the same age group, other group favourites Rising Star FC defeated Warrior FC 5-0 as Warrior FC slid to the bottom of the table. Aryan of Rising Star FC was awarded Man of the match.
Chelsea FC managed a though win against Man U FC, both teams came in with the intent to cement their semi final spot and though Man U FC attacked till the last minute, some good defending by the Chelsea FC boys kept them at bay to collect all three points from the encounter. Sagar of Chelsea FC was declared the man of the match.
Stephen AC and Stephen FC played out a goalless draw. Both teams from the same school fought for bragging rights but neither could break the stalemate and they ended up splitting points. Vansaj of Stephen FC was awarded Man of the match trophy.

In the 16-18 Age Group; Tiger FC beat Juventus FC 4-1 in a rather one sided game, Juventus FC tried to weather out the storm of Tiger FC attacks and managed to score a consolation goal. Inder of Tiger FC was awarded Man of the match.
In a nail biter of a game in this age group, Chelsea FC drew 1-1 with Rising Soldier FC as bother teams fought for the second place in the table to go through for the semi finals. Ankit of Chelsea FC was awarded Man of the match title and trophy.

In the evening Semifinal matches of the 8-12 Years age group took place amidst great fanfare. There was a lot of support for each team as parents flocked to see their kids shine in the semifinals. Ananya Kamboj, an 8th standard student from Vivek High School, Mohali, who has been selected to represent India as a Young Journalist at the global FOOTBALL FOR FRIENDSHIP (F4F) social program to be held in Russia, was the guest of honour for the occasion and shook hands with the players before the match.

The teams of this age group showed great fighting spirit and were eager to reach the finals. In the first semifinal, Real Madrid locked horns with favourites of this age group, KV FC. Both teams defended with great intent managed to string together some good moves. The competition was tough and the nerves of the semifinal showed both in players of both teams and the Minerva coaches mentoring them. The teams drew 0-0 at full time and the winner was decided through penalties. In the end Real Madrid qualified for the finals in what was a major upset for KV FC who had their eyes on the trophy. Shashank of Real Madrid Fc was declared man of the match.
In the second semifinal, Khalsa FC met 5 Warriors FC and in this game too both teams gave each other stiff competition to qualify for the final. The match ended up in ageless draw 0-0 and the winner was decided through penalties. 5 Warrior FC stole the spot for the finals and it was heartbreak for Khalsa FC who had become the crowd favourites. Amitoj of 5 Warrior FC was awarded man of the match for the match.
Real Madrid and 5 Warrior FC qualified for the finals of the 8-12 years age group, to be held on June 6.

Semifinals of the 16-18 Years, 13-15 Years and 19 Years and above age group will be played on June 5 and Finals will be played on June 6 at the Sector 17 Football Stadium.

Prizes will be given out to winners, runners up of each age group and prizes of best goalkeeper, best midfielder, best striker and best defender will also be given out on the day of the final.
