Chandigarh Youth League: The finals across age groups played!

The Chandigarh Youth League concluded among great festivities and fanfare at the Sector 17 Football Stadium as Red Devils FC, Rising Soldiers FC, Kabir FC and 5 Warriors FC were crowned champions of the first edition in the 19 years and above, 16-18 years, 13-15 years and 9-12 years age groups respectively.

In the morning third place matches of each age group took place. In the 9 to 12 years age group Khalsa FC locked horns with KV FC for the third place match. KV FC who had been favourites all along and narrowly missed out on qualifying for the finals when they lost out on penalties in the semifinals. They were determined to secure the third spot and came out with all guns blazing and with some great coordination between players won the match 1-0. Vedansh of Khalsa FC was awarded man of the match.

In the 13-15 years age group Chelsea FC met Arsenal FC and it was Arsenal who got the better of the close match between the teams. Arsenal FC scored their first and only goal in the 20th minute and though Chelsea fought valiantly for an equaliser till the last minute, Arsenal won the match and sealed tried place with a 1-0 victory. Alfred of Arsenal FC was awarded man of the match trophy.

In the 16-18 years age group Juventus FC met King Warrior FC in a thrilling encounter. King Warrior FC won the match with a comfortable 3-0 scoreline to secure third place in their age group. Saurav of Juventus FC was awarded man of the match award.

In the 19 Years and above age group CR7 played off against 7 Warrior FC. Both teams shoed great intent but it was CR7 who won the match with a convincing 2-0 victory.

In the evening the stage was set for the finals with more than 500 spectators at the ground. Minerva Punjab FC I-League players Simranjeet Singh, Manandeep Singh, Kamalpreet Singh, Arshdeep Singh and Nuruddin shook hands with the finalists before kick off of the finals.

In the finals of the 9-12 years age group Real Madrid FC took on 5 Warrior FC in a neck to neck encounter. Both teams started off in search of the opener from the first whistle and played end to end football. Shashank of 5 Warrior FC was awarded man of the match prize.

In the 13-15 years age group Kabir FC locked horns with Stephen FC and what ensued was a thrilling encounter for the spectators. It was Kabir FC who scored first, but Stephan FC regrouped and scored the equaliser within minutes. The score was now 1-1, and Kabir FC started raiding the opposition in hopes to getting the lead again and they were rewarded when Shaurya of Kabir FC combined beautifully with his team mate to make the score 2-1. Stephens though disheartened started pressing for the equaliser once more and were rewarded when they made the score 2-2 just minutes before the full time whistle. The match went into penalties and Kabir FC won the clash 3-2 on penalties and were crowned champions of their age group. Shashank of Kabir FC was awarded manor the match.

In the 16-18 years age group Rising Soldiers FC lined up to take on Tiger FC in a closely contested and physical final. Rising Soldiers who had been favourites all along got a tough fight from Tiger FC. It was the Rising Soldiers who scored first and took the lead but Tigers FC were not about the go down without a fight. They equalised 6 minutes before the final whistle and the match was tied 1-1 at full time. It was once again time for penalties to decide the winners and Rising Soldiers FC won 7-6 on penalties to be crowned champions of the 16-18 years age group. Man of the match was Ashish of Tiger FC.

In the 19 years and above age group there was tough contest between Red Devils FC and Invincible FC. Both teams played end to end football but owing to some great defending by both teams either could breach the goal. The match went into full time 0-0 and winner was decided by penalties. In the end Red Devils won the match 3-2 on penalties. Rudra of Invincible FC was crowned man of the match.

In the 9-12 years age group Akash Kumar Shah of KV FC was awarded best player of the tournament prize. Highest scorer, Rudra of 5 warrior FC and Best goalkeeper Vikrant of Red Devils.

In 13-15 years group Shaurya of Kabir FC was given best player of the tournament award. Highest scorer, Raunak of Kabir FC and Best goalkeeper Ayush Gautam of Stephan AC.

In the 16-18 years group, Rohan Mehta of rising Soldiers Fc was declared best player. Highest scorer, Harsh of Rising Soldier FC and Best goalkeeper Aashish.

In the 19 years and above group Rudra of Invincible FC was declared best player. Highest scorer, Kulbir of Invincible FC and Best goalkeeper Vikrant of Red Devils.

Outstanding performance trophies were given to Jugraj, Aashish, Inder, Gola, Arman, Rajat, Rasheel.
