A crucial victory over rivals Chhinga Veng FC resulted in Chawnpui FC climbing up the table into fourth place on Friday evening as they replied with two goals in a 2-1 win.
The wins sees Chawnpui up into fourth with 13 points after round eight, two points clear of Chhinga Veng FC who drop down into fifth.
Chhinga Veng were able to land the first blow at Rajvi Gandhi Stadium with a finish from Vanlallawmtluanga on the 29th minute.
Chawnpui, now under the tutelage of former Chhinga Veng FC coach Lalsangzuala Hmar, equalised right before halftime from a penalty by MC Malsawmzuala.
Lallawmsanga then struck the winning goal for Chawnpui FC right on the hour mark and his side were able to see out the win despite the best efforts to spark a comeback from Chhinga Veng.
