I-League newcomers Chennai City FC have signed midfielder Zakeer Mundampara and goalkeeper Karanjit Singh on loan from former Indian Super League champions Chennaiyin FC.
30 year old Karanjit Singh is a seasoned goalkeeper on the Indian circuit and a save pair of hands for newcomers Chennai City FC. Born in Hoshiarpur he came through the JCT Academy and made his top level debut for the Phagwara side. Only when they decided to pull out of the I-League in 2010, he moved to Goa and joined Salgaocar FC with whom he played until last season. Over the last couple of seasons he played for Chennaiyin FC in the ISL.
At Salgaocar FC, Karanjit won the I-League and Federation Cup titles, while winning the 2015 Indian Super League with Chennaiyin FC. For India he has played 17 times, but he has not been called up in recent times by the national team head coach Stephen Constantine.
26 year old Areekode born, which lies in the football mad Malappuram district, Zakeer Mundampara has been a talented midfielder, who has played for a number of clubs across India. He started off locally in Areekode before being spotted by State Bank of Travancore. Thereafter he played for Chirag United Kerala, Churchill Brothers SC, United SC, Mohun Bagan AC and Salgaocar FC before last year Chennaiyin FC picked him up for the ISL and he won the championship with them.
Thereafter Zakeer joined newcomers DSK Shivajians FC in the I-League on loan, returned to Chennaiyin FC for ISL-3 and now joins Chennai City FC on loan for the upcoming I-League in which the club will hope he can lead and control the midfield.
After Dharmaraj Ravanan and Dhanpal Ganesh, the signing of Zakeer Mundampara and Karanjit Singh adds further experience to Chennai City FC in their inaugural I-League campaign.
