Club captain Lallianzuala Chhangte is leaving Mumbai City FC a year before the end of his contract on a free transfer to Mohun Bagan Super Giant.
The following is the club statement on Chhangte’s departure
Mumbai City can confirm that Lallianzuala Chhangte and the club have mutually agreed to part ways. Having won the ISL Shield and the ISL Cup with the club, the forward spent the last four and a half years with the Islanders, in which time he became the club’s top scorer and led the club in assists. We thank him for showing utmost respect and professionalism towards the club in this challenging time.
While this was not an easy decision, the club believes it has taken this decision in its best interests after carefully considering the long-term financial sustainability of the club, its continued growth, and the stability of the league.
As the broader Indian football ecosystem grows, the club firmly believes that the success of Indian football depends on the collective strength of its clubs, competitions, players, supporters, and all stakeholders.
We wish nothing but the best for Chhangte in his future pursuits.
