Daniel Kraus to join VfL Wolfsburg as Women’s youth sporting director & U20 Women coach!

At the start of the 2022/2023 season, VfL Wolfsburg is repositioning itself in terms of young female talent: Steffen Beck will be succeeded by Daniel Kraus, who is currently the head coach of Bundesliga club SC Freiburg.

The 37-year-old football coach has signed a contract with VfL Wolfsburg until June 30, 2025 and, like his predecessor, will be the youth sports director and coach of the Under-20 women. Kraus is one of the most experienced coaches in the Women’s Bundesliga: The former goalkeeper at FC Carl Zeiss Jena was head coach at FF USV Jena for four years (2012–16) before moving to SGS Essen (2016–19) and finally to SC Freiburg changed.

“I’m looking forward to my new task at VfL Wolfsburg,” said Kraus. “When I was looking for a new challenge, the decision was made easy for me when I was given the opportunity to implement my ideas and experience at a very ambitious club. From the new season I would like to do my part to take the next steps with VfL in the youth field, to train players at a high level and to further optimize the cooperation with the first team.”

Ralf Kellermann, sporting director of the VfL Wolfsburg Women said, “Daniel Kraus has been working in the Women’s Bundesliga for ten years and has proven at all his positions that he can help players in their development. I am very happy that we were able to win Daniel for VfL Wolfsburg, because with his skills as a football coach, his experience at a high level and his personality, he is the perfect person for the position of youth sports director and U-20 coach.”
