DSK Shivajians FC go down fighting to Mumbai FC in I-League opener!

In the first “Maha Derby” of this I-League season, DSK Shivajians FC went down 0-1 to Mumbai FC through a Thoi Singh strike that won the Home Team the three points.

In a match where Mumbai FC’s Custodian Kattimani was tested time and again, it was the DSK Shivajians who started off the brighter of the two sides. With Juan Quero combining with Kim Song Yong and Lallianzuala Chhangte upfront, it was the home side who were put under intense early pressure. With the team from Pune peppering the opposition goal with shots, and crosses in the box, it was against the run of play that Thoi Singh scored off the crossbar for the home side. The goal did not, however, let the home side off hook with the remainder of the first half continuing as an assault on their defences.

While Mumbai FC went into the break a goal up, the lead was by no means an unassailable one. The second half however, saw a much more composed performance by the side coached by Santosh Kashyap. With some good moves, the Mumbaikars tested Soram Poirei on a few occasions, but were unable to breach the DSK Shivajians defence for the second time. As the second half progressed, the Dave Rogers’ managed DSK Shivajians showcased more attacking intent, with some good link up play in the opposition half. It wasn’t till the 80th minute, however, that the team threw in the kitchen sink, with wave after wave of attack. These did not, however, produce any results with the match ending with a one-nil scoreline in favour of Mumbai FC.
