East Bengal release Ildar Amirov, replace him with Christopher Payne!

Kolkata giants East Bengal Club are currently top of the I-League, but their Asian quota foreigner Ildar Amirov was released yesterday after the Kyrgyz striker failed to impress the red and gold management and coaching staff in their quest to win the I-League trophy.

And the club replaced Amirov quickly through the signing of Australian striker Christopher Payne, who would join the Kolkata giants once his International Transfer Clearance (ITC) and visa are sorted.

26 year old Gosford-born Christopher Payne played for Umina United and Sydney United 58 at youth level before he signed for Austrlian A-League side Sydney FC in 2008.

Thereafter he became a journeyman across Australian leagues playing for Manly United, North Queensland Fury, Newcastle Jets, Bonnyrigg White Eagles, Central Coast Mariners Academy, Manly United again and finally Payne returned to childhood club Sydney United 58 in the New South Wales Premier League, where he scored 22 goals in 24 matches last campaign.

Christopher Payne has also been an Australian youth international for the Under-20 and U-23 sides.

With the club in full flow, the red and gold would hope Christopher Payne is another piece of the puzzle in winning the I-league title.
