Eintracht Frankfurt receive gold for brand management at German Brand Awards!

The 2021 German Brand Award jury has honoured Eintracht Frankfurt with gold awards in the ‘Excellent Brands: Sports Associations & Sporting Clubs’ and ‘Product Brand of the Year’ categories. “For a number of years now, Eintracht Frankfurt have proven their expertise with outstanding brand work which sits well not only with their committed fan-base but also with the wider public – even beyond their local region,” the jury commented. “The brand creates an emotional proximity that makes it easy to identify with the club.”

Eintracht Frankfurt is “a phenomenon that defies description – one that you have to experience to understand. Emotional, approachable, appealing, diverse, modern and with a flair for trends and developments”, is how the club described itself in a 100-second-long presentation video that was submitted to the organisers of the German Brand Awards. “Eintracht Frankfurt is not a brand. Eintracht Frankfurt is a phenomenon”, the presentation added. With 91,000 members, around 1,000 fan clubs and plenty more supporters living out these shared values day in, day out, the club makes this possible via authentic and approachable communications on all levels and channels.

This creates a sense of identification on a regional, national and international level – not just for fans and the immediate environment, but going way beyond. The club is over 120 years old and is based on the history of generations of people who love sport. It has developed from around a dozen original founders into one of the most important sporting clubs in Germany. Football – with its three professional teams – is the real magnet, but the scope and significance of the club would not be possible without the many other sports involved and their various triumphs, successes and titles.

Regional, national and international identification

Jan Martin Strasheim, who, as head of Media and Communications at Eintracht Frankfurt is also responsible for branding, was delighted with the award, saying, “The history of the club can only be fully appreciated by understanding and feeling the deep sense of attachment that fans have for Eintracht Frankfurt. The love shown by the fans and the fan scene that they have developed around Eintracht has become an unshakable constant within the history of the club. It is a lifelong relationship. It comes from deep within every Eagle and creates the very sense of identification and brand image that has been recognised by the German Brand Awards. We are incredibly proud of this recognition.”

Another award went to Eintracht Frankfurt’s naming rights partner, Deutsche Bank, for its roof branding at the Deutsche Bank Park. The illuminated writing that has been on the roof since July of last year stretches over 73 metres and creates an 8.46-metre-high logo in the Frankfurt skyline. The 16 blue letters represent one of the biggest logos in Europe.
