Eintracht Frankfurt sign Colombian striker Rafael Santos Borre!

Eintracht Frankfurt have another new signing for the upcoming 2021/22 season after agreeing a contract valid until June 30, 2025 with Rafael Santos Borré. The centre-forward arrives after four years at Club Atlético River Plate, where his contract expired on June 30, allowing the 25-year-old to move to Frankfurt on a free transfer.

It will be Borré’s third club in Europe, the 1.74m striker having previously been at Atlético de Madrid between 2015 and 2017, during which he also had stints on loan at former club Deportivo Cali and Villarreal CF.

The Barranquilla native finally made his professional breakthrough in Buenos Aires, where he registered 56 goals and 18 assists in 149 competitive games for River Plate. The right-footer’s greatest success to date was winning the 2018 Copa Libertadores, the South American equivalent of the UEFA Champions League. He also played a significant role in the team’s triumphs in the Argentinian cup and the 2019 South American Supercup.

Borré is an old-fashioned striker who comes alive in the box and is clinical in front of goal, often shooting with his first touch. Moreover, the powerful Colombia international reads the game well and has explosive acceleration.

Borré is currently participating at the Copa América with his national team in Brazil, where Los Cafeteros face Argentina in the semifinals on Wednesday, July 7. The forward’s arrival in Frankfurt depends on how far Colombia progress at the tournament.

“Rafael Santos Borré is a very interesting player who has already gained experience in European club football,” said Eintracht board member for sport, Markus Krösche. “His goalscoring instinct and eye for goal will help us. We’re happy to have signed an international-calibre player. Both in sporting and financial terms it’s a very good transfer for us.”
