Enhanced match analyses debut at AFC Futsal Asian Cup 2024!

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) introduced an enhanced method to collect statistical and technical data at the AFC Futsal Asian Cup Thailand 2024 with a view to providing more detailed match analyses.

The introduction of the system to the AFC’s flagship futsal competition not only aims to increase supporting services to participating teams, but to also share improved AFC’s Technical Study Group (TSG) reports with all Member Associations (MAs) including those not participating at the ongoing edition.

The system works by linking data to corresponding video footage, which will be made available to the AFC’s TSG as well as participating teams to provide them with objective feedback on their performances.

Technical analysis services by the TSG were previously focused on the manual collection of data by the AFC’s futsal analysts, who were supported by local volunteers. This new system enables analysts to improve the quality of TSG reports by evaluating games in-depth. The service comprises video recordings shot by an AI camera and a set of performance statistics and data analysis.

Hailing the innovation, AFC Futsal Elite Instructor Tsang Wai Chung, who is part of the TSG at the competition said: “The newly introduced statistical data and tactical recording provider has helped us tremendously with our match analyses as it provides precise data quickly.

“Additionally, since the statistics are accompanied by video recordings, it has eased our workload immensely. Moreover, the user-friendly interface enabled us to learn how to use the software without any difficulty.”

It is the second technological boost for the competition, which also marked the debut of the Video Support System – it allows officials to assess their decisions using a review operator and a pitch-side monitor, thereby enhancing the accuracy of decisions made on the pitch.

Featuring 16 teams, the AFC Futsal Asian Cup Thailand 2024 is being played from April 17 to 28. Japan are the reigning champions, having won their fourth crown after defeating record 12-time winners Islamic Republic of Iran in 2022.
