Euro 2016 – Group E: Belgium beat Sweden, Ireland upset Italy!

UEFA EURO 2016The 2016 UEFA European Championships is being played across France from June 10 to July 10 for the first time with 24 nations across 10 venues in nine cities with the French capital Paris being the only city with two venues in the Stade de France and the Park de Prince.

The defending double champions are Spain, who are three time record champions along with Germany.

GROUP – Matchday 3

Italy 0-1 (0-0) Ireland

Ireland scored a deserving lone goal victory over Italy to progress to the knockout stages of Euro 2016, while the Italians rested a number of their regulars ahead of their upcoming pre-quarterfinal game against defending champions Spain.

Ireland had their chances throughout the game but it was a Robert Brady header in the 85th minute which sealed the win for the Irish which keeps them in the tournament.

Sweden 0-1 (0-0) Belgium

Belgium secured second spot in Group E with a 1-0 defeat of Sweden, which also marked the final game in a Sweden shirt for legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic besides goalkeeper Andreas Isaksson.

A slow match in the first session, which did pick up speed and chances at both ends was won by Belgium through a Radja Nainggolan long ranger in the 84th minute to the joy of their fans and the disappointment for the fans in yellow and blue.
