FC Augsburg sign US teenage sensation Ricardo Pepi!

FC Augsburg have secured the services of young American talent Ricardo Pepi from FC Dallas. The 18-year-old striker, who was named as the MLS Young Player of the Year in 2021, has had a hand in six goals in seven internationals for his country (3 goals, 3 assists). He has signed a long-term contract with FC Augsburg, running until June 30, 2026 with the option to extend by a further year. The centre forward scored 13 goals in the MLS last season for FC Dallas, assisting a further two goals.

The deal is worth at least 13 million Euros plus add-ons.

“We are delighted that Ricardo has decided to join FCA despite interest from a number of top clubs around the world. We were able to provide him with a clear sporting plan for his future development that convinced him to come here,” said Stefan Reuter. “We are certain that he will continue to improve here in Augsburg and that we’ll have a lot of fun together over the coming years.”

“Moving to Europe after the conclusion of the MLS season was my dream. I believe FC Augsburg and the Bundesliga will prove the perfect settings for me to gain match practice at the top level as a youngster,” commented a delighted Ricardo Pepi. “The efforts the FCA club officials put in to sign me were really impressive. As a result, I felt right away that FCA was the right club for me. I can’t wait to meet my new teammates and I want to integrate into the team as quickly as possible. I can hardly wait to get going!”

Ricardo Pepi, who was born in Texas and is also a dual national of Mexico, arrived in Augsburg on Sunday afternoon and underwent a medical at the club, before signing for FC Augsburg on Monday. He will begin training individually in preparation for the second half of the season, which gets underway on Saturday (January 8, 15:30 CET), as FC Augsburg travel to face TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. Pepi will wear the No. 18 shirt for FC Augsburg.
