FC Goa sign Derrick Pereira as their Head of Youth Development & ISL Assistant Coach!

Indian Super League franchise FC Goa on Sunday announced the signing of experienced coach Derrick Pereira as their Head of Youth Development and as the Indian Assistant Coach of their ISL team.

55 year old Derrick Pereira started off playing for local clubs in Goa before joining Salgaocar FC’s in 1980 and he would play his complete senior career with the Greens until 1999, when he retired.

In 2000 he started his senior coaching career with Vasco SC after having coached the Salgaocar Under-19s. After five successful years, he for the first time left Goa to join them giants Mahindra United of Mumbai. He stayed four years with the Jeepmen before moving to Pune FC, where he also stayed for four years.

In 2013, Derrick got the chance to return to Salgaocar FC and he stayed at his former club for two seasons. In the 2015/16 season, he coached newcomers DSK Shivajians FC and in February 2017 he took up the assignment of keeping Churchill Brothers in the I-League, which he has succeeded in doing.

Speaking at the press conference, Derrick Pereira said, “During my break, I wanted to do something for the youth. As a coach I’ve always tried to promote youngsters. Always had this dream to develop good players.”

Now Derrick with get the chance to do so as the FC Goa Reserve team or developmental squad as they call it will play in the Goa Professional League from next season onwards. FC Goa already has signed nine boys for that team, but only announced the names of six players in very talented Liston Colaco (Salgaocar FC), Aaren D’Silva, Derren Fernandes (both Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim), Princeton Rebello (Vasco SC), Jude Cardozo and Ivon Costa.

Interestingly Liston Colaco is seen as the next big player in Goan football after a great season for Salgaocar FC in the Goa Pro League, the Goa senior state team in the Santosh Trophy and also for the Salgaocar FC youth teams.
