Five-star Sreenidi Deccan FC rout Aizawl FC!

Sreenidi Deccan FC notched an emphatic 5-1 win over former I-League champions Aizawl FC at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in a Matchweek 14 clash on Monday. Goals from David Castaneda, Eli Sabia, Ibrahim Sissoko and Brandon Vanlalremdika ensured the Deccan Warriors finally defeated the People’s Club for the first time.

Colombian forward Castaneda could have opened the scoring in the 18th minute but he missed a penalty kick. However, ten minutes later he was on hand to pounce on a loose ball inside the box to score for the third consecutive game and give his side the lead. Aizawl FC were undeterred and they hit back just after half time when Joe Zoherliana found himself unmarked at the back post and he headed in the equaliser in the 49th minute.

Aizawl FC were then reduced to 10 men as Lalthankhuma was sent off for two bookable offences and Sreenidi Deccan made full use of their numerical advantage. Brazilian defender Sabia gave his side the lead as headed in a cross from Faysal Shayesteh in the 66th minute. Substitute Sissoko then scored the pick of the bunch as curled one in from 25 yards seven minutes before time.

Fellow substitute Brandon added salt to his former club’s wounds as he too smashed another one at the end of regulation time. Sissoko then added the final flourish to make it 5-1 in stoppage time as he volleyed in Kean Lewis’ cross.

Sreenidi Deccan FC will host Namdhari FC in their next I-League game on February 25.
