The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Member Associations (MAs) will elect two new members to the AFC Executive Committee for the remainder of the 2023 to 2027 term when it convenes at the 34th AFC Congress on Thursday, May 16, in Bangkok, Thailand.
Additionally, in a first for an AFC Congress, the AFC President, Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa will present the AFC Lifetime Achievement and Distinguished Service Awards, with the recipients to be announced after the 4th AFC Executive Committee meeting, scheduled for May 15, 2024.
The 34th AFC Congress will also vote on the Audited Financial Statements and Auditors’ Report for the year 2023, which saw the AFC deliver its full suite of world-class competitions as well as landmark education, development, technical and refereeing programmes for the benefit of its MAs and Regional Associations (RAs) and decide on the proposals which were received from several Member Associations to amend/remove certain provisions of the AFC Statutes.
Scheduled to be held shortly after the Congress, the AFC will also be unveiling the new brand and identities of the Confederation’s revamped men’s three-tier club competitions and the breakthrough AFC Women’s Champions League at a special ceremony, which will mark a new dawn for the Asian club game in the coming decade.
Representatives from the AFC’s MAs and RAs will also receive updates on the AFC’s progress in recent months, including the staging of the most successful ever edition of the AFC Asian Cup™ in history in Doha, Qatar, earlier this year, with the AFC President and FIFA President Gianni Infantino expected to address the Congress.
The final list of candidates who will stand for the upcoming elections was confirmed on February 15, 2024, and can be accessed here.
