Format changed for upcoming SAFF U-18 Championship!

The format for the upcoming SAFF U-18 Championship had to be changed by the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) due to Sri Lanka’s decision not to send a team.

The SAFF U-18 Championship would be played as per the original dates from September 18 to 27 in Thimphu, Bhutan with the original plan being that runners-up India were drawn in Group A along with Bangladesh and hosts Bhutan; while Group B would feature champions Nepal, the Maldives and Sri Lanka.

Now with five nations left – champions Nepal, runners-up India, the Maldives, Bangladesh and hosts Bhutan – the competition would be played in a round robin format with all five nations playing against each other instead of a league-cum-knockout format.

Missing besides Sri Lanka from the SAFF U-18 Championship would be Pakistan due to problems within the Pakistan Football Federation.
