After much speculations of a possible move away from Atlético Madrid, French international winger Antoine Griezmann has extends his contract with the Spanish La Liga by another season until 2021.
Atlético Madrid Director of Sports José Luis Pérez Caminero said, “I think it’s a fantastic news for all the atléticos because it’s about an excellent player, one of the best footballers in that position, who has already proved his magnificent quality during his two first seasons with us, and he also has a huge margin for growth. He’s very beloved and appreciated by our coach and his teammates, and admired by the fans, who will surely feeling very happy today with this announcement. The club has a solid intention of keeping all the key players and Antoine is one of them, so we must congratulate ourselves for this renewal.”
Born in Mâcon, the 25 years old has finished two excellent seasons in Madrid since he arrived in the season 2014/15 from Real Sociedad. In the first season as a red and white player, he became the top scorer of the team with 25 goals in all the competitions, 22 of them scored in the 37 La Liga matches. In the second year, he outran his own record with 32 goals: 22 in La Liga, 7 in the UEFA Champions League and 3 in the King’s Cup becoming the clubs top scorer for a second year running.
Griezmann is very happy for the agreement, “I’m very satisfied, very happy to keep belonging to this family and this project. I want to improve every year, and the club, the coaches and my teammates can help me to reach this goal,”
Further Griezmann said, “Personally I’d like to score more goals, have more time and matches to play, assist more… My goal is always to be better than the last season. At the collective level we are looking for doing better than the last year as well”.
“It’s essential to continue keeping the important players, with the coach. We’re lucky to be in this club that wants to improve and reach the top and help us keep growing”.
