Germany needs to bring back Hummels, Boateng & Thomas Müller!

The German national football team suffered last night a historic 0-6 defeat against Spain in the UEFA Nations League at the Estadio La Cartuja de Sevilla.

What will worry Germany head coach Joachim Löw and the fans of ‘Die Mannschaft’ is not only the result but especially the way Germany was taken apart by the Spaniards.

And that raises the question, does Germany need to bring back Mats Hummels, Jerome Boateng and Thomas Müller?

From my side it is a clear and big, YES!!!

After the 2018 FIFA World Cup disaster were Germany didn’t make it out of the group stage and the belated ouster of the trio of Mats Hummels, Jerome Boateng and Thomas Müller, Joachim Löw had said that he would build a new competitive Germany. But over the last two and a half years, the youngster have not proved to be better than the older players.

Jerome Boateng and Thomas Müller at Bayern Munich, and Mats Hummels at Borussia Dortmund are currently amongst the best players of the Bundesliga and the UEFA Champions League, who all in recent times have performed for their clubs and are on-field leaders.

Meanwhile Germany as a developing team has shown international class in attack with talent like Timo Werner, Serge Gnabry, Leroy Sane, Kai Havertz, and Leon Goretzka besides experienced players like Toni Kroos and Ilkay Gündogan, a new leader in Joshua Kimmich and captain Manuel Neuer in goal.

But the defence has been a concern for Joachim Löw for some time and he has tried a three man defence, a four or five man backline with different players but none of these have really worked. And after some better and more stable matches, the Spain game was a throwback to the worst.

So now the time has come for Joachim Löw to realise and turn back his own decision of axing Mats Hummels, Jerome Boateng and Thomas Müller from the German side, then the defensive alternatives aren’t good enough and Thomas Müller would be hugely valuable to the squad. Talent isn’t enough, you need character and leadership skills, all things that this squad currently lacks and desperately needs.

If Löw doesn’t retract his own decision, then 2021 will continue to be a bad scene for Die Mannschaft.

Dear Mr. Löw, Dear Joachim, wake up, assess the situation and take a call to bring these players back!
