Germany Women’s team welcome FSV Gütersloh delegation ahead of 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifiers!

The Germany women’s national will play their first home game of the year 2022 on Saturday, April 9, when they take on Portugal in a 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifier at the SchücoArena in Bielefeld. On Wedneday, April 6, a delegation from German 2nd Division Women’s Bundesliga side FSV Gütersloh 2009 was allowed to visit the DFB women in the run-up to the match.

One could not overlook the bright eyes of Noreen Günnewig, Leandra Kammermann and Hedda Wahle despite uncomfortable weather conditions. The three FSV players were granted an opportunity to attend a training session at the Hotel-Residence Klosterpforte and to collect unforgettable impressions despite strict corona safety protocols of the German Football Association (DFB). The trio was accompanied by Tobias Neumann (Deputy Managing Director, FSV Gütersloh 2009) and Chris Punnakkattu Daniel (Strategic Advisor, FSV Gütersloh 2009).

“Our club enjoys a nationwide recognition for our excellent youth development and all our players go to great lengths to pursue their passion and achieve their sporting goals,” explains Tobias Neumann. “We organized a surprise visit to the DFB women’s team to thank our players for their commitment and to motivate them further. Since strict corona safety measures continue to apply, we surprised three players with this visit on behalf of all our players. We would like to continue to support our players and showcase where our talent advancement can lead them.”

FSV Gütersloh has produced more than 40 Germany internationals in its relatively young club history, which stands as a proof for the statement above. There are currently three former FSV players in the senior German national team camp: Lina Magull (FC Bayern Munich), Sophia Kleinherne and Sjoeke Nüsken (both Eintracht Frankfurt).

“You don’t experience moments like today every day. It’s just impressive to see how the training is organized, what the conditions are like in the senior national team and what a great team they have behind the team. When you see the level and professionalism there, you feel something like goosebumps,” stated Noreen Günnewig from the FSV first team.

Leandra Kammermann, midfielder of FSV’s second team, raves: “It was a great experience. The opportunity to see these players up close and to be able to stand next to them, who you otherwise only see on TV or in the stadium from afar, was just great. Above all, sharing this experience with the girls from the other FSV teams was a great opportunity to get to know each other better.”

And Hedda Wahle from the U-17 team was also enthusiastic: “It was a wonderful surprise! Above all, it was nice to have direct contact with the players after training, from which you could take a lot. Now I’m excited for the game on Saturday, which I’ll also be in the stadium for.”

“We would like to thank the German Football Association and the team management of the DFB women who made this visit possible for us,” said Chris Punnakkattu Daniel. “Numerous well-known players have found their way into the DFB teams and the FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga via FSV Gütersloh. With this visit, the club would like to thank all our players from the U-15s to the first team for their wonderful commitment and motivate them to get the most out of them. We wish the DFB women every success for the game against Portugal and the challenges ahead, including the UEFA Women’s EURO this summer.”

Tickets for the World Cup qualifier against Portugal are still available on the DFB online ticket shop. Category 1 seat tickets are available for EUR 25 (reduced EUR 20) and category 2 for EUR 20 (reduced EUR 15). Children up to and including the age of 14 pay 8 euros each for the two categories. Group tickets for ten or more people also cost 8 Euros per person and can also be booked for all groups via the DFB ticket portal at www.dfb.de. The match in the SchücoArena kicks off next Saturday at 4:10pm.
