Goa Pro League: Sporting Clube de Goa take on Sao Miguel Taleigao!

sporting-goa-practiceIt’s yet another 4pm midweek kick-off and the in-form Sporting Clube de Goa take on the newcomers Clube Sao Miguel de Taleigao at Duler Stadium on Wednesday. As we approach closer to the mid way stage of an exciting Goa Pro League season the top five teams are separated by mere five points. Of which Sporting Clube de Goa sit on the third position with 18 points from eight outings while Sao Miguel are yet to make it out of the bottom with three points.

Speaking to the media ahead of Wednesdays clash coach Mateus Costa said, “We are happy with the previous win, but this is a new challenge all together and we are training hard for this match.”

When asked about the early goal conceded against Corps of Signals in the previous match Costa said, “Well yes that is an area we are working on, sometimes recovering from that situation can be tricky. We got some fantastic goals which changed the complexion of that match. Otherwise one has to agree it wasn’t the best of starts we were hoping for.”

On the defensive front Sporting Goa has shown great character this season, skipper Loveday Enyinnaya has marshalled his troops with perfection conceding only three goals in a total of eight outings which is the lowest among all teams.

Speaking about the opponents Costa said, “Everyone here wants to win I don’t see Sao Minguel any different, yes they are at the bottom right now but they have some very experienced players and on a given day they can put up a good performance. We will not take them lightly we have to play our best game to ensure we walk back with full points.”

He added, “We are constantly working and trying hard to improve and reach a level high from our previous matchs. It’s very important to play good football and we as a team believe in that concept.”

With the return of Cajetan Fernandes in the midfield Sporting Goa has received a major boost in terms of creativity. It was very evident from the previous match when he scored two goals and assisted one to blow Corps of Signals away in a gap of 5 minutes. Cajetan’s combination with Glan Martins is proving to be a lethal defensive midfield combo and coach Costa must be hoping both the players to fire in the upcoming fixtures. Also the surge in form of Sporting’s home grown striker Victorino Fernandes in combination with the tall Ghanaian Francis Dadzie is making it tough for the opponents to contain the Flaming Oranje attacks. Over all one can expect a goal feast when this two take the field on Wednesday.
