Heiko Butscher becomes new VfL Bochum head coach!

VfL Bochum 1848 has a new head coach in Heiko Butscher, who will be in charge of the first-team until the end of the season. The sporting director of the Talentwerk and former U-19 coach will be supported by assistant coaches Markus Feldhoff, Frank Heinemann and Marc-André Kruska.

Patrick Fabian, sporting director of VfL Bochum 1848, said, “We made a conscious decision with full conviction in favour of Heiko Butscher and thus opted for an internal solution. Heiko immediately agreed to take on this challenge. He knows VfL, he knows the situation at VfL and has proven that he can immediately reach a team in terms of content and emotion. Together, we are convinced that we will be able to stay in the league.”

VfL Bochum sporting director Marc Lettau said, “I really appreciate Heiko Butscher’s work and approach. Heiko is a VfLer through and through and, together with the entire coaching team, will do everything he can to be successful. We are convinced that we will achieve our goal of staying in the league in this constellation.”

Head coach Heiko Butscher said, “I would like to thank you for the trust you have placed in me and I am really looking forward to working with the team. It is clear to all of us that it can only be done together. As a team, as a unit, together with our fans.”

Hans-Peter Villis, chairman of the board of VfL Bochum 1848, added, “On behalf of my colleagues, I would like to thank Thomas Letsch and Jan Fießer for their commitment to VfL, which resulted in staying in the league last season. Nevertheless, we are currently in a situation where we need an impetus to get back on the road to success. As a long-time Bochum and VfL player, Heiko Butscher has a feel for the club and its surroundings and, as he has already proven, is able to achieve positive results even in the shortest possible time.”
