High participation marks AFC Referees Recruitment 2024 course!

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC)’s determination to provide tailor-made support for its match officials to reach the highest level marked a significant milestone when the AFC Referees Recruitment 2024 courses were conducted for the Confederation’s men’s football and futsal referees in Kuala Lumpur, from February 19 to 21.

The three-day football and futsal refereeing courses marked the final edition in its current form as it paves the way for an exclusive pathway to the AFC Elite Panel through the AFC Referee Academy starting in 2025.

Taking place concurrently with the AFC Women Referees & Assistant Referees Selection 2024 course, the initiatives were attended by as many as 39 football referees and 10 futsal referees from 33 Member Associations (MAs).

Underlining the AFC’s steadfast dedication to upholding its world-class officiating standards, participants embarked on a wide range of evaluations encompassing theoretical and practical knowledge, while also being assessed on their physical fitness.

The program commenced with an engaging ice-breaking session, setting the tone for the match officials to gain a comprehensive understanding of the AFC’s expectations when they represent the Confederation on the world’s most prestigious stages.

The participants took part in several classroom sessions to study and analyze match incidents following which they also undertook several quizzes which gauged their familiarity with the latest Laws of the Game.

Subsequently, the officials were also tested on their proficiency in the English language as well as their report-writing skills, under the guidance of AFC’s top Technical Instructors.

From 2025, the pathway to the AFC Elite Panel will be exclusively for the top graduates from the AFC Referee Academy – the groundbreaking refereeing program which offers an extensive three-year program to referees from across the Continent.
