Hyderabad FC’s Manolo Marquez: We have to find our consistency!

Hyderabad FC head coach Manolo Marquez discusses his clubs crunch clash against Bengaluru FC in the Indian Super League – Season 8.

On the Hyderabad FC’s results so far…

I think we can all see that the Indian Super League is a very difficult competition. There are a lot of changes in the results because the teams are very strong. I think that a lot of teams will need consistency and I think this season could well be decided in the last round of fixtures.

On the positives from the Jamshedpur FC game…

The positive thing is the reaction of the team in the second half. When you have a very good first half and don’t play well in the second half, usually you are angry with the performance and even with the same score if the second-half performance is good, the mood is different. But we can’t be satisfied with the first half (in the game against Jamshedpur).

In the last two games, we conceded the first goal and showed that we can come back into the game and these are the biggest positives for me.

On the Bengaluru FC squad…

There are a lot of good players in their squad, some big names and some exciting youngsters. I really like their style of play which is really nice for the spectators. The coach is very brave and is happy to attack with a lot of players. So, I am sure it will an interesting game.

On the strategy against Bengaluru FC…

Every team in the ISL is different. Bengaluru FC are a very dangerous team in attack, but every game is pretty difficult. We can all agree that each team can beat the other in the league this season. We don’t change our style for this game. What is important is that we have to find our consistency.

On what to expect from Bart Ogbeche…

Goals! Bart has close to 40 goals in four seasons with four different teams and he now has two goals in three games which helps us a lot.

On conceding the first goal in all three games…

I prefer to score before the opponent which makes it easier for my side to control the game. There are mini-games within the games. Against Mumbai City, we found the equalizer very soon and against Jamshedpur FC we had the half-time break to talk about the goal we conceded.

In football, you have to stick to your game irrespective of who scores first and the scoreline. Let’s see if we can score before Bengaluru in the next game.

On the ‘results vs playing style’ debate…

I always prefer results!

For me to get results you need to stick to one style and for the players we have, the style we chose gives us the best chance to win games. But the most important thing is to win. You can win one or two games in the season playing without a specific style. But the normal thing is that you should have a style then the results will follow.
