India consider bidding to host 2023 AFC Asian Cup & a FIFA Women’s World Cup!

After the success of the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup, the All India Football Federation is considering of hosting other high level international football tournaments.

India recently did lose a bid to Poland to host the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup, but the federation with support from the Government of India is considering of making a bid for hosting the 2023 AFC Asian Cup and a FIFA Woman’s World Cup in the near future.

“At this stage you can say we are thinking of bidding for the 2023 Asian Cup, though China has also bid for the tournament. We are also thinking about the Woman’s World Cup and other top international events,” the All India Football Federation said on Tuesday.

“That is a way of attracting attention,” said AIFF general secretary Kushal Das, adding it could eventually “draw the youngsters” to the ground and give the game a try.

Despite the failed 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup bid, India has come out stronger after the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup and to grow the sport in the country, another big international tournament could give further boast to infrastructure, organisation and more.
