India U-16 lose 0-1 to Orlando City SC at Brazilian U-17 Tournament!

The India Under-16 boys started their campaign in the Atletico Paranaense U-17 International Tournament in Brazil yesterday, December 12 on a bitter note as they lost 0-1 to US-based club Orlando City SC.

India started on a high note and earned an early corner, which was cleared by the opposition defenders. In the 4th minute of the match, Orlando City SC got a corner at the other end but Boris Singh tamed the onrushing striker to turn the danger away.

India turned the game in their favour and Ninthoi came very close to open the scoreboard within the first 15 minutes, but his good attempt was grabbed by the goalie.

Both teams went to the changing room without any difference between them.

After the changeover, in the second minute of the game, Orlando City SC found the back of the net from a tethering counter-attacking move.

Three minutes later, Nicolai Adam introduced Mohammed Nawaz at the expense of Dheeraj Singh, the first choice goalkeeper who received huge applauds for his exploits in the 2016 AFC U-16 Championship in India.

Towards the end of the game, Abhijit & Joysana were also introduced by the coach to instil more vigour into the attacking third. In added time, he tried his final ace in the like of Shubham Sarangi to find the elusive equaliser.

In added time, India got four successive corners but the US-based MLS team could not be perturbed until the final whistle.

India will next face the hosts Atletico Paranaense tonight, December 13 at the same venue at 23.30h IST.
