India Women’s international Kamala Devi retires from football!

India Women’s international footballer Kamala Devi has announced at the age of 29 her retirement from professional football.

Explaining her decision to retire, Kamala Devi in a social media post wrote, “Dear Respected Friends,Family and Everyone else,

It’s been a hard decision for me but I would like to announce my retirement from playing professional football.It has been a very tuff decision for me.

First of all I would like thank my parents and my loving Edomcha.Then i would like to thank Oja Biren who taught me how to play football in the grassroots level which made me the footballer im and help me fullfill all my wishes that I had. I would also like to thank my respected local brothers who guided me and supported me throughout my career.”

29 year old Yumnam Kamala Devi was born in Thoubal in Manipur. At a young age she came to football and went to play not only in her native Manipur, but also for the Railways, Eastern Sporting Union, FC Kolhapur City and Gokulam Kerala FC in recent years.

Kamala Devi played 51 matches in total for India scoring 33 goals.

The final competition for Kamala Devi was the 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup, which ended prematurely for India due to a COVID-19 outbreak.
