India’s Manisha Kalyan joins Cyprus’ Apollon Ladies FC!

India’s rising women’s footballer Manisha Kalyan has signed a two year contract with Cyprus champions Apollon Ladies FC.

Manisha Kalyan’s departure from Indian Super League champions Gokulam Kerala FC was confirmed by the Malabarians on social media.

Gokulam Kerala FC tweeted, “Thank you, Manisha! After 3 illustrious years as a Malabarian and winning two IWL titles with us, Manisha has signed a two-year deal with Cypriot Champion Club Apollon Ladies. She is all set to become the first Indian to play in the UEFA Women’s Champions League this season.”

20 year old Hoshiarpur-born Manisha Kalyan won the Indian Women’s League title twice with Gokulam Kerala FC in her three years stay. In the last season, Manisha made headlines by scoring an impressive solo run goal against Brazil while also scoring as the first Indian women in the AFC Women’s Club Championship.

Manisha, the winner of the AIFF Women’s Emerging Footballer of the Year 2020-21 Award, could become the first Indian to play in UEFA Women’s Champions League.

Apollon Ladies FC from the capital Limassol are the defending champions of the Cypriot First Division and will play in the first round of the UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifiers against Latvia’s Riga FS on August 18.

Manisha Kalyan joining Apollon Ladies FC comes just a day after Dangmei Grace had joined Uzbek giants FC Nasaf Women.
