Former Indian Super League champions Atletico de Kolkata scored a lone goal win over Delhi Dynamos FC on Saturday night at the Rabindra Sarobar Stadium in Kolkata.
In a close encounter it was Iain Hume who scored for ATK from the spot, but earlier Marcelinho blew his penalty over the crossbar for Delhi Dynamos after ATK defender Henrique Sereno was send off for a second booking.
The hosts had an early chance in the 5th minute destroyed by Dynamos goalkeeper Toni Doblas, who came off his line to clear before an onrushing Sameehg Doutie off a lovely Iain Hume through ball.
But thereafter the guests from the capital had the better chances. In the 17th minute a Marcelinho was cleared to safety by Debjit Majumder, but only a minute later Debjit was beaten by Marcelinho but Prabir Das saved ahead of the goalline for his keeper.
In the 35th minute the Dynamos will feel they were unlucky not to go ahead as Debjit made a quick triple save against Florent Malouda, Richard Gadze and Marcos Tebar before defender Sereno blocked young Rupert Nongrum though giving away a corner.
Atletico de Kolkata’s best chance of the half fell to Iain Hume as Doutie worked his way through on the right, played the ball back to Hume, but his shot went wide. At the break it was goalless.
Delhi should have been ahead seconds into the second half, but an alert Debjit denied Gadze before Hume headed over the crossbar at the other end.
There was more drama and action in store. In the 74th minute Sereno as the last man brought down Gadze, penalty and a send off with Sereno getting his second yellow card of the night. But the resultant penalty was blasted over by Marcelinho unlike the other night in Delhi, where Marcelinho had equalised from the spot against Mumbai City FC.
At the other end, Doutie continued run circles around his markers Chinglesana Konsham Singh and Lalchhawnkima with Kima holding him and bringing him down, another penalty only at the other end two minutes later. Canadian Iain Hume takes the penalty and sends Doblas the wrong way, its the lead for ATK and Hume becomes with this goal the alltime highest goalscorer of the ISL.
Thereafter the Dynamos have one last chance, but ATK play out the remaining minutes for three big points in ISL-3, which takes them into second spot.
