ISL-3 Final: Atletico de Kolkata lift title for second time, beat Kerala Blasters on penalties!

Atletico de Kolkata are the new 2016 Indian Super League champions after beating home side Kerala Blasters on penalties at a sellout Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi on Sunday night.

The game had ended in a one-all draw after 90 and 120 minutes. The Blasters went ahead of a header from for ATK striker Mohammed Rafi off a Mehtab Hossain corner in the 37th minute with Atletico de Kolkata equalising soon after in the 44th minute off a Sameehg Doutie corner which Man of the Match Henrique Sereno headed in.

In the penalty shootout Iain Hume and Ndoye missed for their respective teams to keep it all square at 3-3 with Blasters stand-in captain Cedric Hengbert’s shot acrobatically saved by Debjit Majumder for ATK, while Jewel Raja scored the deciding penalty to give ATK their second ISL title in three years, while the Blasters once more lose a final to end the 2016 campaign of the Indian Super League.
