ISL-4: NorthEast United FC sack Portuguese coach Joao Deus!

Struggling Indian Super League franchise NorthEast United FC have sacked their Portuguese coach João Carlos Pires de Deus after only seven matches in-charge.

“He and his assistant coach (Joao Pinho) have been shown the door. They are expected to come to Mumbai on Wednesday and do the final settlement with (owner) John Abraham,” an ISL official told a news agency.

NorthEast United FC, co-owned by Bollywood’s John Abraham, have been strugglers in the ISL since day one in 2014. The club has many fans and great support in the NorthEast, but not the financial clouth as other franchises.

In the ISL-4, NorthEast United FC hoped for a turn around under young 41 year old João Carlos Pires de Deus, but after seven matches they are ninth in the table with one win, one draw and five losses, having only scored two goals and both of them in their only win over the Delhi Dynamos.

The woes of the Highlanders continue in the ISL and it will be interesting to see who will take the hot seat with goalkeeping coach Joseph Siddy taking temporary charge of the running of the team.
