ISL-4: Seiminlen Doungel hattrick wins it for NorthEast United FC against Chennaiyin FC!

NorthEast United FC rode on the back of Seiminlen Doungel’s hattrick to beat former ISL champions Chennaiyin FC at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati on Friday night.

There wasn’t much goalmouth action in the first half until the 42nd minute when Seiminlen Doungel scored his first of the night off a rebound. The Highlanders would take the slender lead into the break.

Things got better for NorthEast United FC after the restart as Seiminlen Doungel got his name onto the scoresheet again to make it 2-0 and then in the 68th minute, Seiminlen Doungel did it again off a cross from Halicharan Narzary.

Youngster Anirudh Thapa scored a consolation goal for the visitors of Chennaiyin FC in the 79th minute, but that was all the damage they could do on the night.

NorthEast United FC score a memorable 3-1 victory with Seiminlen Doungel becoming the Highlanders first player to score a hattrick in the history of the Indian Super League.
