ISL-5: FC Goa beat FC Pune City in an entertaining 4-2 win!

FC Goa returned to the top of the ISL-5 standings with an entertaining 4-2 win over bottom of the table FC Pune City at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Margao on Sunday evening.

FC Goa went ahead in only the 5th minute as Ahmed Jahouh send a long ball forward for Ferran Corominas and the Spaniard did want he does best, score the opener for the Gaurs. But the lead did not last three minutes as Marcelinho equalised with a brilliant effort over young keeper Mohammad Nawaz.

FC Goa were ahead again in the 12th minute, when Hugo Boumous played a double pass with Coro and he headed his side ahead. In the 20th minute it was 3-1 for FC Goa as Coro is send free and he squares the ball for Jackichand Singh to make it 3-1.

But the goals kept coming as in the 23rd minute an opportunistic Emeliano Alfaro with a hard shot reduced the deficit to 2-3 for FC Pune City. The guests had now chances to equalise but FC Goa kept their lead and scored a fourth through Coro, who off his own rebound found a way to hit the ball into the net in the 35th minute.

Both sides had more chances, Marcelinho the best in the 45th minute hitting the crossbar as it stayed 4-2 for FC Goa.

FC Pune City were the better of the two sides at the start of the second session and they earned a penalty in the 53rd minute when Chinglensana Singh fouled Emiliano Alfaro, but young Nawaz saved Alfaro’s effort to keep the result at 4-2.

Thereafter things slowed down as the match ended 4-2 in favour of FC Goa who continue to fly high in ISL-5, while FC Pune City stay bottom of the league under interim coach Pradyum Reddy in his first match in-charge after the firing of Miguel Angel Portugal.

FC Goa now travel to the Steel City to face Jamshedpur FC on November 1, while FC Pune City aim for the season’s first win when they host Kerala Blasters the very next day on November 2.
