ISL-7 opening week sees 16% viewership increase on Star Network!

The organisers FSDL and broadcaster Star India of the Indian Super League will be happy to note that there has been an increase of 16% in television viewership on the Star India network as per data from television ratings agency Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India.

The growth is based on average impressions of male viewers above 15 years of age from NCCS A and B from urban markets who watched the first eight live matches of the opening week across 13 television channels of Star India.

The growth is universally seen across markets both Hindi speaking markets (18%) and south (14%).

Plus the ISL has grown into a 11 team league with ATK & Mohun Bagan merging into ATK Mohun Bagan and their archrivals SC East Bengal also joining, which is an added bonus for the league.

Sanjog Gupta, head-sports, Star India, said, “After a successful Dream11 IPL 2020, we laid emphasis on an enhanced viewing experience for football by stressing on product innovations, improved story-telling and fan engagement.”

“We hope to maintain the momentum and build on the gains in viewership in Week 1. Hero ISL 2020-21 has also set the precedence for other sporting events to resume in India by following the highest safety standards,” Gupta added.

ISL 2020-21 is being live broadcast in 83 countries and territories across TV and digital platforms. Star India airs the tournament in seven languages and multiple channels with fans also able to catch the action live on Disney+ Hotstar VIP and JioTV.

Star India is expected to corner around 200 crore in ad revenues mostly from on-air advertising on Star Sports and Disney+ Hotstar as fans await the football extravaganza.

Further Star Sports and FSDL introduced a series of exciting technological innovations this year to give fans the opportunity to engage with their favourite clubs and players from the comfort of their homes.

The addition of a dedicated LIVE Fan Wall raises the excitement a notch higher to help viewers celebrate important moments with their favourite team and heroes. The two LED screens feature fans from the home team and the away team, thus amplifying the rivalry virtually to enhance the viewing experience.
