JAKO & VfB Stuttgart – Colourful & wild: A strong symbol for diversity!

On the occasion of the “Remembrance Day in German Football”, JAKO designed a special jersey with VfB Stuttgart in which the VfB professionals played in Friday night’s home game against Mainz 05. Because diversity makes every team strong.

This year, VfB Stuttgart is taking part in the “Day of Remembrance in German Football”, which with its “! Never again” message commemorates the cruel persecution and murder of people by the National Socialists. This year, German football is particularly focusing on those people who have been stigmatized and brutally persecuted as ‘deviant and homosexual’ because of their sexual and gender identity.

VfB President Claus Vogt said of the club’s commitment, “There were also people in the ranks of VfB Stuttgart, mainly of Jewish faith, who were tortured and murdered in extermination camps. To condemn these crimes against innocent people and to keep the memories of the victims alive is our deep need and our duty.”

VfB CEO Thomas Hitzlsperger said about the atrocities committed by the National Socialists, “These people were deprived of their dignity and the right to their gender and sexual self-determination. That is why the clear message for this year’s Memorial Day is: Never again should people be discriminated against on the basis of their sexual orientation!”

On Friday night’s home game day, VfB Stuttgart send a strong signal for diversity. As part of its VfBfairplay commitment, the club has already drawn attention to special social issues on several occasions and achieved a high level of public awareness.

VfB President Claus Vogt said, “With a rainbow as a chest ring, our team will send a strong signal on the pitch and into the living room of our audience and promote a colourful society in which all ways of life are equally recognized.”

Diversity makes every team strong

Tobias Röschl, Marketing Director | Sales of JAKO AG said, “If everyone brings their strengths to make the whole team better, you can achieve the best result as a team. This applies to the football field and beyond. That is why we are fully behind the VfB Stuttgart initiative and, together with our partner, have designed a jersey to underline the motto ‘colourful & wild’. Diversity makes every team strong.”
