The Men of Steel delivered another strong performance when they faced Hyderabad FC in their first home game of the season and even though another game resulted in a draw, the Jamshedpur men delivered a dominating performance whilst narrowly missing to take the lead over the opposition. That being said, Jamshedpur are still undefeated in the season and will now look forward to their next challenge tonight, which is also one of the toughest fixtures for the squad – ATK Mohun Bagan. The former champions have shared the pitch with Jamshedpur FC twice, since their merger of ATK and Mohun Bagan in the previous season and both fixtures have been entertaining and full of action. The first game between the two was played on December 7, 2020 and they will be clashing again for their first game this season, today i.e. December 6.
The game was the one that Jamshedpur FC had desired to achieve a victory in, as they were yet to win a game, needing the 3 points to stay in the race to the top spots. With 2 brilliant goals from Valskis from corner set-pieces, Jamshedpur kept a comfortable 2 goal lead till the final moments of the game when Roy Krishna scored one goal past the Jamshedpur defence to keep the hopes alive for his team. But, the Men of Steel were very disciplined in their defence and did not allow the opposition to make a comeback and they won their first game of the season. At the end of the second half of the season, the two teams went toe-to-toe for the second time but this time Jamshedpur FC required as many wins as possible in their last few games to make it to the play-offs.
The Men of Steel defended every chance that the Mariners created to score till the very end but were beaten in the dying moments of the game when Roy Krishna converted one of the chances into a goal, thus ending the game in a 1-0 defeat for Jamshedpur FC. With that defeat, Jamshedpur FC’s dream of heading to the play-offs too was once again unfulfilled due to lack of points
Tonight, the Mariners and the Men of Steel go against each other again with the aim of grabbing a clear win over the other and stay in the top 4 spots of the league table. While the Mariners have had a mixed bunch of results and even got beaten by Mumbai City FC with a large margin in their previous game, Jamshedpur FC are on an undefeated run as they have not lost any of their previous 5 games (including 2 matches from last season).
The Head Coach knows whom they are going up against tonight and is very much vigilant and prepared to face the same. “We have to make sure that we are ready for the challenge they will bring with the level and the quality they have. They are going to be very dangerous opponents even more now because of their fire and motivation to get back to winning a game like they had done in the first two games of the season. They even have the ability to bounce back very quickly, and that makes them very dangerous opponents,” said the Gaffer in the pre-match press conference ahead of the game.
The last defeat that Jamshedpur FC suffered were in the hands of ATK Mohun Bagan and Jamshedpur FC would be aiming to reverse the results this time and keep their undefeated streak alive. While Owen Coyle’s men have not lost yet in the 2021-22 season, they have also not yet been beaten in the Athletic Stadium, Bambolim.
As the Jamshedpur men step up for their 7th game on the same pitch again, they will be putting their best foot forward to give it their all tonight with a single-minded aim to walk out with the 3 winning points. Filled with dangerous attackers and strong defences, the fixture will also be one of the most intense battles of the season.
