Jamshedpur FC score big 5-1 win over Odisha FC!

Jamshedpur FC were in their ultimate form when they beat former league leaders, Hyderabad FC, in their previous fixture to overtake them and establish themselves as the #1 team in the league table, thus cementing their spot in the playoffs for the first time in the club’s history. The squad stepped back up to the pitch to play their last home game of the league stage against Odisha FC.

Jamshedpur FC did not spare any time as they went into attack mode right from the get-go and took their attempts at goal to take an early lead from two set-pieces and a bunch of well-planned attacks from the wings as well as the middle. Jamshedpur FC took complete control of the game as they dominated the entirety of the pitch and came through with their opening goal within 25 minutes of the game from a free-kick set-piece. A fantastic curled free kick from Greg Stewart which was headed for the top corner, was saved by the Odisha FC goalkeeper which later rattled off the crossbar and landed right in the middle of the box. When the ball landed in front of the goal, Chima pounced on the open opportunity and attempted a diving header targeted at the open goal which took the Men of Steel into the lead. Defender Victor Mongil attempted to block the attempt away, but failed to make contact with the ball which helped Jamshedpur FC break the deadlock.

Just a couple of minutes after the Jamshedpur FC squad took the lead over the Juggernauts, they slotted their second goal of the night in quick succession as Daniel Chima struck yet again. Odisha FC’s Paul attempted a clumsy back pass to the goalkeeper, which Chima quickly intercepted. Despite having the keeper in front of him, he directed the ball into the bottom right corner and scored his second goal of the evening to make it 2-0 for Jamshedpur FC. Even though Odisha FC was in a two goal deficit, Odisha FC kept their spirits high as they slotted one for themselves right before the half period came to an end as Paul redeemed himself with a goal with a shot in the bottom corner which TP Rehenesh could not completely parry away to safety.

The second period kicked-off with even more energy as Odisha FC picked up pace in order to score an equaliser but the Jamshedpur side denied the Juggernauts to slip in any more goals for the night but kept their hunger to score more. Ritwik Das slotted their 3rd goal of the night after a beautiful lobbed pass into the box to Ritwik was received by him with his head to beat the defenders and finessed it in the bottom corner. The Men of Steel did not stop there as they scored another goal from open play to take their lead even further. On the right wing, Greg Stewart found the ball near the byline and drove the ball further in as Odisha FC players believed Len Doungel committed a foul during the play, but the linesman kept the play on. Jordan Murray being in the heart of the box is provided by another great assist by Greg Stewart, who put it past the keeper to extend their advantage. A disagreement between the referee and the Odisha striker Jonathas led to a red card being awarded to the Brazilian which reduced the Juggernauts to 10 men.

The Men of Steel took full advantage of the extra men on field and unleashed tons of attacks aimed at the Odisha FC goal to take their goal difference even higher by scoring more goals and even came very close to converting more chances, but they could not finish it into the back of the net. As the game progressed and reached its final few minutes, Ishan Pandita hammered the final nail in the coffin and scored a goal after he came off the bench to make it five for Jamshedpur FC. Greg Stewart on the right wing released it to Dinliana as he chased the ball down near the outside line and sent a low cross into the penalty box. It landed at the far post, where Ishan Pandita was ready to make the most out of the opportunity and finished it into the goal to score yet another one after the 80th minute of the game.

Jamshedpur FC ended their last home game of the league stage with a whopping victory over Odisha FC and registered five goals on the full-time scoresheet. The Men of Steel extended their number of points in the league even higher with a stunning win and inched even closer to lift the ISL Shield with just one game left to play while they stayed at the top of the table with six wins in a row.
