Jamshedpur FC score deserving upset win over ISL champions ATK Mohun Bagan!

After commencing the ISL season on a bright note, ATK Mohun Bagan were looking forward to extending their winning streak at the Tilak Maidan Stadium tonight. On the other hand, Jamshedpur FC were yet to register their first victory of the season.

As the defending champions of ISL last season, ATK Mohun Bagan were looking to climb the points table as they were ranked second in it. They had bagged nine points from their three games. Jamshedpur FC on the other hand were placed eighth in the points table after they picked up two points from their last three matches. Needless to say, Jamshedpur FC had every intention to end the winning streak of ATK Mohun Bagan in order to bag their first three points, and so they did.

Jamshedpur FC began their first attack towards the opposition box but it ended in a foul as Aitor clipped in an aerial battle thus ending the first freekick of the match in under a minute. The ball was then crossed in towards the men in red but the keeper at goal successfully caught it in the air. An attack erupted as Dinliana ran into the right flank looking to lob the ball into the box but it was well defended by the ATK defender thus leading to the first corner of the contest. Aitor, then, whipped the ball into the box and the skipper managed to get his head on the ball. Unfortunately, it went far wide.

The match intensity picked up drastically as a number of fouls were committed but the referee decided to keep the card in. The first threat came on to the ATK Mohun Bagan defence as the ball got into their box through the defence and was laid off to Mobashir who in turn took a shot at goal. Sadly, it did not challenge the keeper and he saved it with his hands down the middle. Then, the first booking of the contest was picked up by Jamshedpur as Ricky stepped on to Roy Krishna’s foot and the Mariners got a freekick a few yards away from the box. Nothing came out of it as the defence successfully put it outside. The fixture grew more aggressive; both teams fought to keep the ball with themselves and attacked the opposition’s box to get that crucial early lead. Then, Jamshedpur FC unleashed a barrage of attacks on the visitors as multiple shots were taken on target, but they all got blocked out. In came another close call for ATK Mohun Bagan as the Red Miners took another attempt at goal but it was cleared by the defender.

The Red Miners finally took a lead around the 30th minute of the match as a corner was whipped into the ATK Mohun Bagan box. Valskis got a perfect head on the ball which was aimed right at goal and the keeper could not block the ball away; the Reds scored that much-needed lead, and with that earned lead, Jamshedpur FC managed to dominate the rest of the first half. Alex got a yellow card after clashing with Carl McHugh in the midfield in order to win the ball, but he got booked for the foul committed. The first half came to an end with Jamshedpur FC leading with one goal.

The second half started with full energy as the Mariners looked to get back into the game with a fierce attack and an equaliser but they were denied by Rehenesh with an amazing save. The ball was then mostly seen in the Red Miner’s half as ATK Mohun Bagan went all-out attacking the hosts to get back into the game.

The contest cooled down for a while as both the teams looked to keep possession. Then, a foul on Valskis while attacking, led to a freekick right outside the ball. Valskis immediately stepped up and tried to put it in the right corner but it was blocked by the keeper which in turn led to a corner. The following corner turned out to be a blessing for Jamshedpur FC as they doubled their lead thanks to Valskis who bagged his second goal of the night. The ball was lobbed in with Mobashir heading the ball further into the middle of the box; Valskis escaped his marker and put the ball in easily. The Reds parked the bus in the defence to keep the opposition at bay.

The third booking for Jamshedpur FC came as Eze clipped Roy’s ankle and received a yellow card. After multiple attempts to get back into the game, the defending champions finally got their opening goal. Roy Krishna was fully left unmarked by the defence line when he received the ball. Roy was one-on-one with the keeper while Rehenesh dove to get his hand on the ball. Unfortunately, he failed to do so and Roy tapped it in thus bringing the Mariners back into the game with 20 minutes left for the full time while the Jamshedpur FC players appealed for offside. In the end, the goal was given to visitors.

Jamshedpur FC to ensure that they stayed in the lead, gave their best efforts to keep the ball away from the box. The Mariners then unloaded a ton of attacks from all sides as they aimed to level the scores with just a couple of minutes left. Jamshedpur FC unleashed their full potential as they put up a stunning performance with top-notch defence and quick counter-attacks.

The final moments saw the ball with the ATK Mohun Bagan looking to net in a late equaliser in the closing moments of the match and thus a lively and competitive contest came to an end with Jamshedpur FC registering their first victory of the season and walking away with three points and the final score being 2-1.
