Jamshedpur FC signs dynamic Spanish forward Sergio Castel!

Indian Super League franchise Jamshedpur FC have signed 24-year-old Spanish forward Sergio Castel for the 2019-20 season. The stellar signing completes Jamshedpur FC’s squad of Indian and foreign players.

Castel comes off the back of an impressive 2018-19 season having racked up 13 goals for UD San Sebastian de Los Reyes (SS Reyes) in Spain’s Segunda Division B. The young centre-forward featured regularly for the club as he helped them to an 8th place finish in the league, having made 34 appearances in the season. After the successful season, Castel was signed by Atletico Madrid for their ‘B’ team.

“I am delighted to play for Jamshedpur, which is one of the top clubs in India with a massive fan following,” an elated Castel said. “The ISL is a competitive league and I look forward to the opportunity of playing in this beautiful city. Moreover, I am excited to play under a highly experienced coach like Antonio Iriondo.”

The 24-year-old began his professional career with Club Atlético Osasuna ‘B’ after being promoted from their U19 team in 2014. Castel was loaned to CD Tudelano the same season and later, played for CD Lealtad, Las Rozas CF, AD Alcoron B, and most recently with SS Reyes. Castel also had season-long stints with FC Bendigo of the National Premier Leagues Victoria, Australia in 2015-16 and then Than Quang Ninh FC of the Vietnam League 1 in 2016-17.

Jamshedpur FC Head Coach Antonio Iriondo was excited at the prospect of having Castel in his squad. He said, “In Sergio Castel, we have signed a forward who is quick, strong and a constant threat for the opposition. He is young and a positive influence off the field and compliments our other foreign and Indian players.”

Sergio Castel will join the rest of the first team squad for pre-season in Jamshedpur in September 2019 ahead of the Indian Super League 2019-20 campaign.
